Our Story
The Problem
Millions of working Malaysians are locked out of fair financing. Traditional banks see them as too risky, too costly to serve, or invisible to conventional credit scoring. The result: families pushed toward informal lenders, predatory rates, or going without — whether it's the motorcycle that gets them to work, the washing machine at home, the phone that keeps the family connected, or the bike they've saved up for.
The Insight
The underserved aren't unbankable — they're underserved by outdated systems. With AI-native credit decisioning, alternative data, and a multi-lender marketplace, it becomes possible to assess risk more accurately, match borrowers to the right lender, and bring down the cost of serving this segment at scale.
The Founding
Our founding team saw this gap firsthand — from the lending desks of Malaysian banks, the operations floors of Southeast Asian fintechs, and the dealer showrooms where families were turned away. In 2024, we came together to build Bümi: a platform that connects every participant in the lending ecosystem and uses technology to make responsible lending viable at scale.
